Massage therapy is a treatment process developed to use gentle stretching, mobilization and soft tissue massage techniques to treat a variety of conditions such as migraine headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, neck and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica.

Massage therapists are trained in the principles of anatomy, physiology, pathology, massage theory and practical uses of massage. They are also versed in stretching techniques, remedial exercise and gentle mobilization.

Because massage therapy uses gentle techniques, it is ideally suited for persons who may be experiencing pain or discomfort associated with a less active lifestyle.

Throughout Canada, massage therapists work in collaboration with physicians, dentists, chiropractors, physiotherapists and other health care professionals. Throughout the world, massage therapy is an important part of self-care and health care programs. Massage therapy is widely recognized by patients and doctors alike as an effective means of treating soft tissue pain or disability, and for its value in preventative care.
